For backlink research and AI-visibility tracking in Ahrefs
Ahrefs MCP
By Ahrefs. Official hosted server from Ahrefs. The older local npm package was archived in February 2026 and should not be used.
The widest scope of any SEO data server here: backlinks, keywords, rank tracking, site audits, Brand Radar for AI visibility, and even your Search Console and Ahrefs Web Analytics data, grouped so you can switch on only what you need. It needs a paid Ahrefs plan and spends API units on every call, with a minimum per request.

A good fit if
- SEO teams and agencies already on Ahrefs.
- Link-building and digital PR work.
- Brands monitoring AI-answer visibility alongside classic SEO.
Look elsewhere if
- You only need occasional data and no subscription. See DataForSEO MCP
- You want a ranked to-do list for one small-business site. See Digital Marketing + SEO

Requirements and setup
- A paid Ahrefs plan, Lite or higher.
- An MCP client that connects to remote servers.
- Add https://api.ahrefs.com/mcp/mcp to your assistant as a remote MCP server.
- Approve the Ahrefs consent screen; an MCP key appears in your account.
- Optional: append ?tools=essentials if your client limits tool counts.
Step-by-step for each assistant: How to connect an MCP.
Limitations
- Every call uses API units; Ahrefs documents a per-request minimum.
- Ahrefs does not permit using the MCP endpoint from custom scripts or standalone JSON-RPC clients; it points developers to its public API instead.
- Some clients cap how many tools they accept; use the “tools” parameter to choose groups.
